Aragon and Galicia lead the 88 nominations for the 2024 Porc d'Or Awards

A total of 88 pig farms in Spain have been nominated for the 31st edition of the Porc d'Or Awards, which will be held on November 29 at the Zaragoza Auditorium.
On this occasion, Aragon and Galicia stand out as the communities with the highest number of nominations. Aragon leads the list with 37 nominations distributed among 13 farms in Huesca, 9 in Zaragoza and 3 in Teruel, while Galicia has 33 nominations, divided between 18 farms in Ourense, one in A Coruña and one in Pontevedra.
The event, which will bring together more than 1,000 professionals, will also feature nominations from other regions, including Catalonia (26 farms), Castile and Leon (15), Navarra (8), Castile-La Mancha and Extremadura (2 each), as well as La Rioja and Andalusia, with one nomination each. The farms will compete in categories of Longevity, Numerical Productivity and Farrowing Rate, being evaluated based on the size of their herds and their performance in animal welfare and reproductive efficiency.
Special awards
In addition to the gold, silver and bronze awards in the regular categories, the ceremony includes three special awards. The Porc d’Or with Diamond award, the most prestigious award, recognizes the farm that stands out in terms of production, management, health standards, animal welfare and sustainability. In this edition, three farms are nominated for the Porc d’Or with Diamond: Cubase, from Industrias Agroalimentarias Cubase in Baltar (Ourense); Ponte Coirós, from Coren in Coirós (A Coruña); and Sat 575 Na Díaz de Zerio, from Piensos Costa in Viana (Navarra).
Another special recognition is the Sustainability award, granted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA). This award recognizes farms that implement the best practices in health, animal welfare and respect for the environment. The nominees for this award are Celanova, from Coren in Celanova (Ourense); Eucaliptal, from Inga Food in Mérida (Badajoz); and Josvi Tejares, from Sat Hermanos Chico in Tejares de Fuentidueña (Segovia).
Finally, the Porc d’Or One Health award from Ceva Animal Health recognises initiatives that promote a comprehensive approach to animal, human and environmental health. The farms nominated in this category are Eucaliptal, from Inga Food in Mérida (Badajoz); Granja Bendoiro, from Nudesa in Bendoiro - Lalín (Pontevedra); and Cerdo de Calanda, from Piensos Costa in Samper de Calanda (Teruel).
