Galicia leads the Porc d’Or Awards with 13 statuettes

The Zaragoza Auditorium hosted the 31st edition of the Porc d’Or Awards on 29th November, under the watchful eyes of more than 1,000 professionals from the sector who attended the presentation of these awards.
In this edition, the community of Galicia was the most awarded with a total of 13 statuettes: 9 for the province of Ourense, 3 for A Coruña and 1 for Pontevedra. In addition, Galicia also took home the three special awards.
The Porc d’Or Award with Diamond went to Ponte Coirós, from Coren, located in Coirós (A Coruña). The jury of the Porc d’Or Awards highlighted the farm’s great productive efficiency maintained over time, its high survival rate of suckling piglets, its census balance, the meticulous handling of the animals in all phases of production and the great professionalism of its human team. This success is accompanied by rigorous data recording and clear action protocols in the different areas of the farm.
The Ceva Animal Health One Health Special Award went to Granja Bendoiro, from Nudesa, located in Bendoiro - Lalín (Pontevedra), of which the jury highlighted the excellent continuous, active and joint work between the veterinarian and the farmer carried out to improve the health of the animals, the appropriate biosecurity, cleaning and disinfection measures, its meticulous vaccination plan, as well as strict control of the entry of external animals. With this holistic mentality and comprehensive approach to guarantee excellent health in pig production, they have achieved a good health level and prudent use of antibiotics in 2023.
Finally, the MAPA Porc d'Or Award for Sustainability went to the Celanova farm, from Coren, located in Celanova (Ourense). In this case, the jury highlighted its excellent biosecurity, cleanliness and the health status of the animals. In environmental matters, the comprehensive management of slurry stands out through a solid-liquid separation plant and its application on the land of the farm where it is located, promoting the circular economy and the reduction of emissions, as well as the use of renewable energy. In relation to animal welfare, the large spaces available with very good enrichment, good ventilation and natural lighting and the good general management of the facilities by the staff stand out.
On the other hand, Catalonia and Aragon closed the top 3 of farms that took home 33 of the 43 statuettes awarded at the 2024 Porc d'Or Awards. Catalonia received a total of 12 statuettes: 7 for the province of Barcelona, 2 for Girona, 2 for Lleida and 1 for Tarragona, and Aragon closed the podium with 8 awards: 5 for Huesca and 3 for the province of Zaragoza.
