The Porc d'Or Awards celebrate 30 years with outstanding novelties

30th August 2023 - News

The Palau de Congresos de la Llotja de Lleida will host on 20th October the 30th anniversary of the Porc d'Or awards, organized by IRTA, and which this year have Ceva Animal Health as a partner, and with the collaboration of the Interprofessional of the Porcino de Capa Blanca (INTERPORC) and the Interprofessional Association of the Iberian Pig (ASICI). On the 30th anniversary of the awards, the edition comes loaded with news.

Two new awards

The first novelty of this 30th anniversary is the One Health Special Award, a new award designed by Ceva Salud Animal with the aim of promoting and giving voice to actions and projects that promote the integral approach of One Health in pig farms. The award seeks to recognize the joint work of farmers and veterinarians who implement innovative measures on their farms to improve animal health: proper management practices, establishment of high biosecurity standards, promotion of animal welfare, investment in training and disease prevention.

On the other hand, the organization wants to recognize the efforts of farmers not only with productivity, but also with aspects of animal welfare, health and the environment. And from there the other new award has born: the Porc d'Or Award for Lactation Management whose objective is to recognize, among reproductively efficient farms, those that stand out for a high survival rate of piglets during lactation and good husbandry practices. maternity management. The winning farms will be those that present the highest value of piglet survival among all the farms, a numerical productivity (number of weaners per productive sow and year) above the median of its category. There will be a total of twelve nominated farms, which will distribute the four awards of this new Award.

And of course we must add to the previous two other Special Prizes that were already being awarded. Starting this year, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Award is renamed the MAPA Award for Sustainability, and it is awarded to a farm that stands out from the rest in terms of Animal Health and Welfare and respect for the Environment. And the Porc d'Or with Diamond, the highest award, which will go to the best white layer pig farm based on its productive results, its overall management and management, complying of course with health, zootechnical and animal welfare.
