Zaragoza will host the 31st edition of the Porc d’Or Awards
25th September 2024 - News
The ceremony for the 31st edition of the Porc d’Or Awards will be held on 29th November at the Zaragoza Auditorium starting at 7:00 p.m. This event, which will bring together more than 1,000 professionals from the swine sector, is a unique opportunity to recognize the best practices in pig production and promote continuous improvement in the efficiency and quality of the sector. The event is sponsored, once again, by Rotecna.
The Porc d’Or Awards, organized by the Institut de Recerca i Tecnologia Agroalimentàries (IRTA), are a benchmark in the field of pig production in Spain, highlighting excellence and innovation in the sector. This year the gala returns to Aragon after the successful 2021 edition in Huesca, reaffirming its prestige and consolidation after more than three decades of recognition of the effort and professionalism of pig farms. Registration to participate in the gala will soon be available through the website of BDporc, the Pig Reference Database.
Selection of nominees and award winners
On 3rd September, an interdisciplinary jury met at the IRTA Fruitcentre (Lleida) to select the nominated and awarded farms, based on criteria of health, animal welfare and the environment. This jury includes experts from the pig sector from both the public and private sectors.
Special recognition for sustainability and health
The 31st edition of the Porc d'Or Awards highlights several important awards. The One Health Award, from CEVA Animal Health, recognises the comprehensive approach to the health of pig farms, rewarding the joint work of farmers and veterinarians who implement innovative measures to improve animal health.
In addition, the Sustainability Award, awarded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, recognises the best practices in health, animal welfare and the environment. On the other hand, the most prestigious award, the Porc d’Or with Diamond, will be given to the best white-coated pig farm, evaluating its production, management and compliance with health and welfare standards.
During the ceremony, traditional awards will also be given out that recognize longevity, numerical productivity and farrowing rate, classifying farms in four categories according to the number of breeding sows, and the Porc d’Or Award for Lactation Management, which rewards the most efficient farms in reproduction, highlighting those with high survival rates of piglets during lactation and good management practices in farrowing sheds. The winners will be those that achieve the best survival rates and exceed the median numerical productivity of their category.
